Olarte writes for Asian News Network
Avigail (Avie) Olarte, MA Journalism alumna (2010), joins Asian News Network (ANN), and contributes as a new staff her first story entitled ‘Exiled Dreams,’ a crossborder story on Sri Lankan refugees living in Bangkok.
The article describes the ordeal of Sathi, 17-year old Sri Lankan girl, who was brutally tortured and raped in the confines of the prison in the 90s when the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealaam (LTTE) had been at war with the government.
“Sathi, now 35, is but one of the many Sri Lankans who had escaped from an abusive regime. Like her, Tamils fled from the war-torn country, seeking a new, peaceful life elsewhere ,” Olarte wrote in her article.
Olarte’s article was published in the AsiaNews magazine, 7 Billion and Rising. http://www.asianewsnet.net/home/epaper.php?id=3121&st=e. The Asia News Network runs the AsianNews magazine.
