Crowdsourcing in Asian Journalism

by

Sourcing content from the audience has become a commonplace practice in the news media. Many news organizations have integrated social media content such as tweets, Facebook posts and amateur videos in their news operations – from the gathering and verifying of stories to their dissemination. Thus the news industry has become increasingly conversational, participatory and diverse. But while crowdsourcing has evolved from an innovative practice to a standard operating procedure in a growing number of Asian media organizations, it is still viewed with caution and critical eyes in many others.

In this conference Asian journalists and international media practitioners and observers present and examine crowdsourcing practices, trends, and their implications to professional standards and the future of the Asian news industry as well as allied media industries.
