The Philippine Star’s Iris Cecilia Gonzales bagged this year’s National Statistics Month (NSM) Media Award for her story“RP races to meet Millennium Development Goals by 2015” published in the July 25 issue of The Philippine Star.
The award is given by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) to an individual media reporter for “valuing the extensive use of, as well as for the professional handling of statistics in his or her work.”
Gonzales, who covers public finance and the macro-economy for The Philippine Star, received a plaque and a cash prize from NSCB during the awarding ceremonies held at EDSA Shangri-la Hotel in Mandaluyong City on October 4, 2010. She is a an MA in Journalism graduate (2010).
Economics professor Solita Monsod, chair of the 2nd NSM Awards panel of judges, and NSCB secretary general Romulo Virola led the awarding ceremonies. The awarding ceremonies were part of the 11th National Convention on Statistics and the 21st National Statistics Month celebration.
